Supporting the Whole Faculty Member During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Fairfax campus in the spring

The coronavirus (Covid19) pandemic has resulted in drastic changes to the way we live, relate, play, and work. Faculty not only have to deal with their own changing life/work circumstances, but also those impacting their families and children. This is why it’s more important than ever to take care of our well-being.

In order to support the whole faculty member, the Office of Faculty Affairs and Development has compiled a collection of resources that includes links to school continuity websites in the DMV counties; resources to support children, including fun and educational activities; and tips on how parents can manage homeschooling and working during the pandemic. Also included are resources for general well-being and financial resources.

Additionally, the Center for the Advancement for Well-being and Faculty Affairs & Development have developed a collection of brief well-being activities you can use in your classroom with your students. We call these re-wiring activities – rewiring your brain to optimize learning and engagement. If you have questions about this resource, you can email Melissa Schreibstein or Millie Rivera

Finally, we are holding daily mindfulness sessions via Webex. They are facilitated by Mason faculty, staff and students from the Fairfax, Arlington and Sci Tech campuses and are of various lengths to fit diverse time commitments. Feel free to share the link for the mindfulness sessions with your students.
