First Steps

Starting a new job can be stressful, as there is a lot to learn about the basics of an institution and its environment. Human Resources & Payroll will smooth the way for you.

Human Resources & Payroll helps you become a member of Mason Nation by providing the information you need to start your new work life. HR will help you:

  • Enroll in health and retirement plans.
  • Sign up for direct deposit.
  • Get guidance on transportation (Metro, shuttles, buses, parking).
  • Explore options for child care.

The Onboarding Portal is a one-stop shop where you can find information about onboarding steps specific to position type, the New Employee Welcome Center, and more resources to support your successful start at Mason.

Keep track of important university policies and training requirements. You're required to complete some sessions within your first 90 days of employment at Mason. FERPA training is also required for faculty. 

Promoting health and happiness is important to Mason. HR offer resources and opportunities to faculty to enhance their work and personal lives.
