Teaching, Mentoring, and Advising Awards

Adjunct Teaching Excellence Award

Recognizes and rewards excellence among adjunct faculty members for course planning and preparation; curriculum development; and innovative teaching, advising, and mentoring.

Teaching Excellence Award

Recognizes and rewards excellence among full-time faculty members for course planning and preparation; curriculum development; and innovative teaching, advising, and mentoring.

David J. King Teaching Award

Recognizes a faculty member who has made significant, long-term contributions to the overall educational excellence of the university.

 Online Teaching Excellence Award

Recognizes a faculty member devoted to innovative online course planning and teaching.

OSCAR Excellence Awards

Recognizes and rewards outstanding Mason community members who mentor undergraduate students in their research and creative work and who foster a culture of student scholarship on campus.

Academic Advisor of the Year Award

Recognizes and rewards undergraduate academic advisors who have had a positive impact on students and recognizes excellence in advising across the Mason community.


Faculty Excellence Awards

Distinguished University Professors

Recognizes current members of the faculty of great national or international reputation whose substantial research, scholarship, or arts credentials have set them apart.

Application or Nomination Criteria
The criteria for such appointments include substantial research or scholarship or arts credentials, as appropriate to the discipline.

Presidential Medals for Faculty Excellence

Established by the Office of the President, the Medals for Faculty Excellence were created to recognize, promote, and honor outstanding members of our community for excellence in teaching, research & scholarship, social impact, and diversity & inclusion. The process of selecting and nominated is coordinated by Office of the President.

SCHEV Outstanding Faculty Award

Sponsored by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV), the Outstanding Faculty Awards recognize and reward excellence in teaching, research and scholarship, and public service among Virginia institutions. Distinguished Service Professors

Recognizes individuals whose careers have had a major impact on their field or on the university community that goes well beyond ordinary levels of service.

Description
This distinction recognizes individuals whose careers have had a major impact on their field or on the university community that goes well beyond ordinary levels of service.

Cycle
Individuals are recommended by a dean or director and appointed by the Provost.

Criteria
The criteria for such appointments include extraordinary level of impact, sustained contributions to the good of the university and the academic unit, and/or significant contributions to the field that extend beyond the boundaries of the university.

Distinguished Library Faculty Award

Recognizes a library faculty for their exceptional performance in their scholarship and service.

Cycle

Application or Nomination Due: February

Criteria
Complete nomination packets must include a nomination letter, a copy of the nominee’s curriculum vitae, and three letters of reference.

Evaluation Criteria
Applicants will be considered by the performance of their professional duties, as well as by their scholarly and service contributions to the academic research library field, and to higher education.

Composition of Review Team
The review team is composed of two faculty members from the Librarian’s Council, two faculty members from the Management Advisory Council, and one faculty member from the University Librarian’s Council.
